Product Overview
The Sugia OmniScope M4 is the ultra-portable variant of the M-Series 4-way articulation platform. At 1.85 kg total system weight including battery and 2.0 m probe, the M4 is designed for the aviation line-maintenance technician who carries the borescope to the aircraft — potentially up a work-stand to a wing-mounted or tail-cone-mounted engine — rather than rolling a cart-based system across the hangar floor.
The M4 integrates the probe interface and 5.7-inch daylight-readable monitor into a single handheld unit measuring 220 mm × 140 mm × 45 mm. The 4.0 mm probe diameter and 130° 4-way articulation are shared with the M1, but the shortened 2.0 m insertion tube targets inspections where the access port is within arm’s reach of the inspection zone — compressor front-stage blade inspection through the inlet guide-vane port, for example.
The M4’s battery architecture uses two hot-swappable 3.7 V / 3400 mAh 18650 Li-ion cells accessible through a thumb-screw battery door, enabling indefinite field operation with pre-charged spare cells. Still images and MPEG-4 video record to a UHS-I microSD card accessible from the side panel, with a USB-C port for direct file transfer to a laptop for technical-log entry.
Key Engineering Features
- 1.85 kg All-in-Handheld Integration: Probe interface, 5.7-inch monitor, articulation control joystick, and battery compartment integrated into a single magnesium-alloy chassis with overmolded TPE grip surfaces.
- Shared M1 4-Way Articulation System: Same 130° TrueGlide SMA actuator platform as the desktop M1; 200 Hz closed-loop control with velocity smoothing for TBC-safe tip manipulation.
- Field-Swappable 18650 Battery Architecture: Two standard 18650 Li-ion cells (3.7 V, 3400 mAh each) accessible via a captive thumb-screw door; no proprietary battery pack dependency. Pre-charged spares provide indefinite field runtime.
- 5.7-Inch Daylight-Readable Monitor: 800-nit transflective LCD with optically bonded Corning Gorilla Glass 3 cover; anti-reflective coating and circular polarizer for sunlight-legible operation on open flight lines.
- Direct USB-C File Transfer: USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) Type-C port for mass-storage device enumeration to a Windows, macOS, or Linux laptop; no proprietary transfer software required. Standard MTP and MSC protocols supported.

Target Applications
- Aircraft Line Maintenance: Pre-flight compressor-face FOD inspection after foreign-object events, combustion-chamber visual assessment during transit checks, HP turbine inlet-guide-vane (NGV) condition survey through igniter-port access on wing-mounted engines.
- Helicopter Engine Inspection: Power-turbine blade visual inspection through borescope ports on PT6T, Arriel 2, and M250-series turboshaft engines; main-rotor mast internal inspection through lubrication access ports.
- Rapid-Response Field NDT: First-look inspections at remote oil & gas well sites where helicopter or light-aircraft transport limits equipment weight; mining shovel boom internal inspection during short-duration maintenance windows.
- Training & Education: NDT technician certification training (ASNT SNT-TC-1A, EN 4179) where a portable, representative 4-way system is required for hands-on instruction without tying up a full desktop inspection console.
