The Sugia OmniScope F2 is a pneumatic-articulation long-reach videoscope designed for inspection scenarios where insertion-tube lengths exceed the practical limits of electro-mechanical articulation — typically beyond 10 meters, where SMA or servo-driven tension-wire systems encounter prohibitive cumulative friction losses.

The F2 replaces mechanical tension-wire actuators with a pneumatic articulation system: an integrated oil-free micro-compressor in the console delivers filtered compressed air at 0.8 MPa (8 bar) through a 0.8 mm diameter pneumatic lumen integrated into the insertion tube. The probe tip houses a three-axis pneumatic actuator assembly where regulated air pressure to three paired chambers controls tip deflection in the vertical plane (up/down), horizontal plane (left/right), and an all-way blending mode for omnidirectional steering. Each axis pair operates on a push-push principle: pressurizing one chamber while venting the opposing chamber to atmosphere produces controlled tip deflection in that direction.

The pneumatic architecture’s key advantage is length independence: since the actuation force is generated at the tip rather than transmitted through tension wires from the handpiece, the 150° articulation range is maintained across the full 30 m insertion tube length with zero degradation. The system is available in 20 m and 30 m insertion tube lengths, both with the same 8.5 mm probe diameter. An optional transponder module enables separation of the probe-deployment station from the operator console by up to 100 m via fiber-optic tether, allowing the operator to remain at a safe distance from potentially hazardous inspection environments (confined-space entries, elevated work platforms, radiation-controlled areas).
